stumps will actually re-sprout live growth, and wil! continue to provide soma slope-
holding capability. Since the removal of the hazardous trees has expoaed aome bare
soil on the slope, it may be beneficial to re-establiah vegetative cover in thoae areas.
Replanting with trees is not recommended, due to the diwlty of establishing more
desirable native species on a ateep slope and the possibility of creating a similar
hazardous tree skuation in the future. Replanting with shrubs will provide cover to the
bare soils for erosion control, additional root mass for soil stability, and will likely
establish faster, with a greater degree of survival than tree apecies in the given sRuation.
Suitable shrubs for a dry, west facing slope i cansorav (Holodiscus discolo,
snowberryfaodn a e (Acer glabrum). It is recommended that the shrubs be
installed in the fall, as seasonal rains will greatly improve the percentage of survival
versus pianting in th dry season. Additional consuftation with a geotechnical or civil
engineer is recommended regarding the stabiliry of the slope, and possible erosion
control and slope stability measures.
_ vy.'d - lnfa :ocofcr
This repoR has been prepared as an assessment of the current condition of trees
removed from and remaining on the project sRe, and may not be valid during or after
construction.
