' Subsurface E•olorarion nnd
?OZ6 Grnnd.l renue Geoiedmica!Enginecring Report
IErercit, linshinqmn Design Recummendarions
III. DESIGN hECONiMENIaATIONS
1 ,
6.0 IN'CRODUCTION
IOur exploration indicates that from a ecotechnical standpoint, the site is suitable for the
1 proposed condominium project. Suitable foundation bearing soils vere encountered near
proposed design tloor elevatim within the eastern portion of the building. However, suitable
bearing soils were encountered at a dcpth of 1 to 20 feet ichin the weste,: end of the
builaine. We anticipate tha[ conventional shallow spread footings could be used within the
eastern half of the building and a deeper pile foundation utilized for the western portion of the
building. A top of slope building setback of 8 feet should be maintained from the top of the
t west-facine steep slape.
I D to existing topography, desired finish floor elevatiun, and proximiry to property line, and
I rights of way, temporary shorine of exca:ations will be necessary. AESI should reviev
completed desien plans su that we m:,y provide shoring recommendations specific to the site.
 7.0 SITE PP.EPARATION
ISitc: preparation of the planned building and driveway areas should include removai of :ii
existing svucmres, utilities, debris, and any oUier deleterious :naterial. Areas where loose
surficial soils esist due to grubbing operations should be considered as fill to the depth of
Idismrbance and treated as subsequently recammenQed for strucmral fill placement.
1 Por strucWral locations (i.e., foundation and slab-on-grade tloors), excavation should extend ro
i
a depUi necessary to exposc medium de+isc to dense, natural soils. Suitable bearing soi:s
sltould be encountcred ti'ithin the eastern half of the building folloving excavation to desired
g,rades. Withict th slab-on-erade garage floor area, tle esposed soil subgrade should be
cuupacted to a minimum of 93 percent of ASTM:D 1577.
Due to the i- to 20-foot depdi to bearine sediments and Aie close proximity of the steep slope,
ve recommend the use of a deep pile foundation for the western end of' the building. Site
preparation for a pile foundation should consist of escavating to desired foundation floor
grades.
Ali ecavated material from the fomidation excaations shouid be remoed from the site and
not placed oer thc slope towards the est.
I
 huie l9, 1000 ASSOCfATED EARTN SCIE\CES, lNC
Page 7
( 1.\S.da-A"FiM)3/YGl-fD-0Li'61KI-lC7h;
1
