'
GEOTKHIMUI ENGINEERING STUDY E-12863
 March 17.2017
' SITE CONDITIONS
Surface
' The proposed development consists of a 0.13-acre, irregular-shaped parcel located
approximately 100 feet south of 21st Street along the west side of Grand Avenue, Everett,
Washington. The site is bordered to the norlh and south by single-family residence lots, to
the west by an alley stemming from 21st Street, and to the east by Grand Avenue.
The site is situated on a west facing siope that ascends from the east shore of Possession
Sound to the top of the slope near Hoyt Avenue. The topography of the slope within the limits
of the site has an average gradient in the range of 18 percent. A potion of the slope located
approximately 45 feet west of the site contains a gradient of over 40 percent with overall
height in the range of 70 feet, and it is mapped as a medium and a very high slope on the
Snohomish County Web site.
IThe site is vegetated with grass lawns and landscape bushes.
1 Subsurtace
Subsurface conditions at the site were evaluated by reviewing the geologic map from the
Coastal Zone Atlas o( Washington and by drilling two borings and advancing two hand auger
holes at the siie.
ISubsurtace Exploration
Subsuface conditions at the site were evaluated by drilling two borings and advancing two
Ihand auger holds on May 3, 2007, at the approximate locations shown on Plate 2. The
borings were drilled to a maximum depth of 31.5 feet below grade using a tracked drill rig.
The hand auger holes were advanced to a maximum depth of 5 feet below grade. The boring
logs are included as Plates A2 through A5. Please refer to the boring logs for a detailed
description of the conditions encountered at each boring location. A description of the field
exploration methods is included in Appendix A. The following is a generalized description of
the subsurface conditions encountered.
At the boring and hand auger locations, 6 to 8 inches of topsoil was encountered. The topsoil
was characterized by its dark color, loose consistency, and the presence of organic material.
At the boring locations, approximately 10 feet of fill comprised of silty sand (Unified Soil
1 Classification SM) was encountered. At the hand auger locations, 3 feet of fill comprised of
silty sand (SM) was encountered. The fill was characterized by its loose consistency,
disturbed appearance, and the presence of trace organic debris.
Underlying the fill at the location of Boring B-1, 10 feet of inedium dense to dense silt (ML)
overlying medium dense to dense silty fine sand (SM) was encountered. Underlying the silty
fine sand (SM) at 30 feet below grade, very dense poorly graded sand with silt (SP-SM) was
encountered to the maximum exploration depth of 31.5 feet below grade.
 EARTH CONSULT7NG INCORPORATED ca,;.,_,
