E-12863
GEOTECHINUL ENGINEERING 57LDY
March 17,2007
DISCUSSION AND RECOMMENATIONS
1 General
, Based on the results of our study, in our opinion, construction of the proposed multifamily
residence building is feasible from a geotechnical engineering standpoint. The proposed
, building may be supported on a conventional spread and continuous footing foundation
system bearing on competent native soil or structural fill. Concrete slab-on-grade floors
should be similarly supported.
, This report has been prepared for specific application to this project only and in a manner
' consistent with that level of care and skill ordinarily exercised by other members of our
profession currently practicing under sirnilar conditions in this area. This report is for the
exclusive use of Mr. Jim McNeil and his representatives. No warranty, expressed or implied,
, is made. This report, in its entirety, should be included in the project contract documents for
the information of the contractor.
, Environmentally Sensitive Areas Considerations
The steep slope located to the west of the site is mapped as a meclium and a very high slope
, on the Snohomish County Web site. The subject slope is located approximately 55 feet west
of the proposed building to the west of the alley that borders the west side of the site. Based
on our review of the Coastal Zone Map for Washington, the slope is comprised of artificial fili
' and is mapped as modified (tit) under the slope stability portion of the map.
In our opinion, the proposed development wiil not adversely affect the stability of the steep
, slope. The primary basis for this conclusion is the level of development in the area and the
approximate 55-foot buiiding setback from the top of the slope.
 Site Preparation and General Earthwork
Based on our experience with similar projects, site earthwork will consist of installing erosion
, control measures, removing the existing building and garage, installing soldier piles, grading
the site to provide building grades, and backfilling the foundation.
' Stripping
' Prior to stripping, on-site erosion control measures consisting of silt fencing and surface
water conirols should be instailed around the perimeter of the site.
, The building and pavement areas and areas to receive structural fill should be stripped and
cleared of surface vegetation, organic matter, existing foundations or pavements, and other
deleterious material. Based on the thickness of the topsoil and vegetation cover encountered
' at our exploration locations, we anticipate a typical stripping depth of 4 to 6 inches. The
actual stripping depth should be based on field observation at the time of construction.
' Page 5
EARTH CONSUl.T7NG INCORPORATED
