Landings on stairways require a dimension in the direcdon of travel equal to the width of the <br />stairway but need not exceed 44 inches when the stair has a straight run. The handgrip portion of handrails shall be not less than 1'h inches nor more than 2 inches in <br />cross secdonal dimension or the shape should provide an equivalent gripping surface. The <br />acce�tability of equivalent shapes will be determmed by the building official. The handgrip <br />portion shall have a smooth surface with no sharp corners. Guardrails for stairs, balconies and landings shall conform with Secdon 1712(a). Note that <br />maximum clearance between intermediate rails is less than 4 inches and guardrail height should <br />be 42 inches. (Guudrails at the sides of open stairways may have a height as permitted for <br />handrails.) Secdon 1712(a). <br />�20. All doorways leading to accessible rooms shall have an unobstructed clear width of not less <br />than 32 inches. Secuon 3106(j). <br />� 1. Accessible doors shall have maneuvering ciearances per Section 3106(j)3. This item applies to <br />the door to the utility room. <br />
