We observed that the eastern
and western extend of the wall, including final wall height, had been surveyed by Harmsen and
Associates. A total of 17 piles are planned for the wall, 8-foot on center. The final height of the wall
will be at elevation 190 feet. The length, type of pile, and embedment depth varies depending on its
wall location and the final exposed height, but for the piles installed today, pile lengths varied from 16
feet long to 34 feet long.
We observed the installation of 5 piles (N17 through N13) as shown on the Site Plan. Each hole was
augured with a 24-inch auger to approximately one foot below the planned bottom of pile elevation.
The soil that was exposed during the excavation consisted of brown -gray, fine to medium sand with silt
to silty fine to medium sand. We did not observe sloughing in the holes after they were drilled, and we
did not observe evidence of groundwater. All the holes were backfilled today with CDF and the top of
the piles were set at an elevation of 190 feet +/- 0.1 inches.
We will return to the site tomorrow to continue to observe the wall installation. Based on our
observations while on site, it is our opinion that the retaining wall is being installed in general
accordance with the wall design.
Attachment: Site plan + wall profile
Distribution:
US I W pmy_ -
