Geotechnical Engineering Evaluation <br />Anderson landslide Repairs <br />' 4704 Harbor Lane <br />Everett, Washington <br />September 15, 2009 <br />NGA File No. 816909 <br />Page 2 <br />SCOPE <br />The purpose of this study is to explore and characterize the site surface and subsurface conditions, and <br />provide recommendations for stabilizing the site slopes and also addressing the City of Everett's concerns <br />regarding this site. Specifically, our scope of services includes the following: <br />I. Review available soil and geologic maps ofthe area. <br />2. Explore the subsurface soil and groundwater conditions within the site with five <br />gcotechnical borings using a portable drill rig. Drill rig was subcontracted by NGA. <br />3. Map the surficial conditions within and around the slide area. <br />4. Explore the near -surface soils within the slide vicinity using band tools. <br />5. Explore and observe the conditions underneath the residence and in the vicinity. <br />6. Provide recommendations for temporary and pcnnanent slope stabilization, including <br />recommendations for it permanent retaining wall. <br />7. Provide recommendations for site drainage and erosion control. <br />8. Provide a written report documenting our observations and recommendations for <br />pcnnanent slide stabilization. <br />9. Provide additional consultation during the design phase of the pcnnanent solution. <br />SITE CONDITIONS <br />Surface Conditions <br />The site is an irregularly -shaped parcel covering approximately one acre. For the purpose of this study, <br />the site slope will be considered to be north facing. The property is bordered to the southeast, cast, and <br />west by residential properties, and to the north by a steep slope that descends down to Merrill & Ring <br />Creek. The site is currently occupied by a single-family residence with a daylight basement, swimming <br />pool, and small jacuzzi. The southern portion of the site is situated on a relatively gently sloping ground. <br />The house is located on the gently sloping portion of the site. Behind the house, the eastern portion of the <br />backyard is approximately four feet higher in elevation than the western side of the site where the pool <br />and jacuzzi are located. The northern portion of the site slopes steeply down to Merrill & Ring Creek. <br />The house is located approximately 30 feet away from the top of slope. The pool and jacuzzi are located <br />approximately five to eight feet from the top of slope.
