Geotechnical Engineering Evaluation Anderson landslide Repairs ' 4704 Harbor Lane Everett, Washington September 15, 2009 NGA File No. 816909 Page 2 SCOPE The purpose of this study is to explore and characterize the site surface and subsurface conditions, and provide recommendations for stabilizing the site slopes and also addressing the City of Everett's concerns regarding this site. Specifically, our scope of services includes the following: I. Review available soil and geologic maps ofthe area. 2. Explore the subsurface soil and groundwater conditions within the site with five gcotechnical borings using a portable drill rig. Drill rig was subcontracted by NGA. 3. Map the surficial conditions within and around the slide area. 4. Explore the near -surface soils within the slide vicinity using band tools. 5. Explore and observe the conditions underneath the residence and in the vicinity. 6. Provide recommendations for temporary and pcnnanent slope stabilization, including recommendations for it permanent retaining wall. 7. Provide recommendations for site drainage and erosion control. 8. Provide a written report documenting our observations and recommendations for pcnnanent slide stabilization. 9. Provide additional consultation during the design phase of the pcnnanent solution. SITE CONDITIONS Surface Conditions The site is an irregularly -shaped parcel covering approximately one acre. For the purpose of this study, the site slope will be considered to be north facing. The property is bordered to the southeast, cast, and west by residential properties, and to the north by a steep slope that descends down to Merrill & Ring Creek. The site is currently occupied by a single-family residence with a daylight basement, swimming pool, and small jacuzzi. The southern portion of the site is situated on a relatively gently sloping ground. The house is located on the gently sloping portion of the site. Behind the house, the eastern portion of the backyard is approximately four feet higher in elevation than the western side of the site where the pool and jacuzzi are located. The northern portion of the site slopes steeply down to Merrill & Ring Creek. The house is located approximately 30 feet away from the top of slope.
