7.0 MAINTENANCE, MONITORING, AND CL%N nNGENCY
7.1 MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES
The purpose of this maintenance program is to ensure the success of the mitigation
plantings. The planting areas will be maintained in the spring and fall of each year for
the three-year monitoring period. Maintenance activities will include the following as
necessary:
• Plant inspection and replacement
• Limited Control invasive species
• Remove trash
Following each monitoring, recommendations will be made for the replacement of
plant mortality. Any replanting will be done by the contracted landscap• and should
be done during the fall maintenance visit. Maintenance should be done by hand to
avoid impacts to establishing plants and existing habitat.
7.2 INVASIVE SPECIES
Weed control will be accomplished through the use of hand removal and mowing.
Himalayan blackberry is the main species of concern for this mitigation project. All
Himalayan blackberry within five feet of the plantings shall be removed above ground
by hand only. No disturbance to the surface soils is permissible. If it is determined
by the Geotechnical Engineers that the soils are impacted by invasive species cortlol,
the method of maintenance will be discontinued. The goal of this maintenance is to
allow the planted native species to establish. At that point, it is expected that
shading will prevent further establishment of invasive species.
7.3 PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
Performance standards have been established to assess the success of the mitigation
project in achieving the stated goals. Performance standards are as follows:
7.3.1 PLANT SURVIVAL
Year 1 Monitoring
Success Standard: 90 percent survival of planted species
Year 2 Monitoring
Success Standard: 80 percent survival of planted species
Year 3 Monitoring
Success Standard: Minimum 50 percent aerial coverage of native species
Wet land Resources, Inc. 9 Anderson SFR - Restoration Plan
WRI # 09126
