strength and there should be a restriction on when the face of the pile can be
excavated.
Shop Drawings: the designer refers to an ARCHITECT.... Is there an architect
on this project, if so WHO? The real question is who the project manager of this
project and who is answerable if the plans are not being followed. Is it the owner
and are they knowledgeable enough to control the contractor's operations.
Lagging: the 2 inch clean crushed rock needs to be specified with a WSDOT
material so everyone knows what is being used.
Sheet S2.1
1 More detail is needed on the Wall Plan that contours the backfill into the existing
ground. Water coming around the ends must be controlled properly so erosion
does not take place at the ends.
Sheet S3.1
2 The low permeability material must be specified by a WSDOT material.
3 The removal of material in the front must be designed as to the amount and a plan
of where it is to be removed to.
General Comments
4 These are structural drawings and for that they are adequate if my comments
above are incorporated; however, there are NO civil drawings concerning
earthwork. The areas not discussed or described are:
o the ends of the wall and how they are to be stabilized from erosion;
o the adjacent and damaged properties below. Are these properties just
being left as they are?
5 Where is the planting plan being presented?
6 Who is designing the stormwater collection and piping'? That is typically NOT
Icfi to the geotechnical engineering firm.
7 Repairing the hillside below this area where the wall is located is as critical as the
top. They should be permitted at the same time and the work must be tied
together and enforced by the City. I get the impression that the Anderson's only
want to insure that the top of the hillside is stable and really do not want to do any
work on the lower portions, which is the adjacent property.
Closure
If after reviewing this drawing review memo, should you have any questions, please do
not hesitate to call.
37116
