APPENDIX A
E-8349
Our subsurface expioration was performed on August 31, 1998. Subsurface conditions at
the site were explored by excavating four test p(ts to a maximum depth of sixteen (161 Feet
below existing grade. The test pits were excavated by Northwest Excavating subcontracted
to ECI, using a trackhoe.
Approximate test pit locatfons were determ(ned by pacinp from features depicted on the aits
plan provided by the client. The app:oximate test pit elevations were estimated relative to
each other. The locations and elevations of the test pits should be considered accurate only
to the degree impl(ed by the method used. These approximate locationa are shown on the
Boring Location Plan, Plate 2.
The field exploration was conttnuously monitored by a staff geolopist from our ftrm who
classffied the soils encountered, maintained a log of each test pit, obtained representative
samples, and observed pertinent site features. All samples were visually classifted in
accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System which is presented on Plate A1,
Legend. Representative soil samples were placed in closed containers and returned to our
laboratory for further examination and testing.
Logs of the test pits are presented on Plates A2 throuph A5. The final logs represent our
interpretations of the field logs and the results of the laboratory examination and tests of field
samples. The stratific, tion lines on the logs represent the approximate boundaries between
soil types. In actuality, the transitions may be more gradual.
ErN Cawuhw, Mw.
