The O&M manual for the filter refers to the variability of required maintenance
depending upon the unique conditions present at each individual site and refers to
adjusting the maintenance frequency in response to monitoring information. The
system configuration at the Community Transit site appears to be different than most
installations in that a high flow bypass exists upstream of the filter. In addition, the
presence of the large wetvault upstream of the filter will also affect sediment loading.
To maximize the efficiency of the compost filter, maintenance of the filter - including
the opening of the drainage valves through the course of the rainy season - should be
based on the actual hydraulic conditions observed for this unique installation.
The monitoring plan must formalize the recommendations contained in the O&M
manual, reflect particular City concerns regarding the hydraulics of the system, and
represent a commitment by the applicant to conduct the monitoring. The monitoring
plan must also make provision for submittal of inspection results and maintenance
activity summaries to the City.
