Ou.drant
12 April 199E
E•917-102Et1
Pass 9
Placement of pavement directly over compacted site soils will be weather-0ependont. In the
event that granular base course is used to allow slightly more capability to continua paving
following intermittent rains, the slab thickness may be reduced to 7 inches if underlain by at
least 4 inches of crushed rock bass course.
4.9 Rockeries
A rockery wail an be used to protect the cut face of an otherwise stable, natural or fill slope
if periodic maintenance can be tolerated. If a rockery is incorporated into the development, it
should be constructed in accordance with City of Everett requirements and limited to the
restrictions stated theroin. We recommend rockeries be constructed of sound, durable rook
with a battered face no steeper than 1H:SV. The bottom course of each rockery should be
founded in at least medium dense native or fill soils. Everett rockery standards have strict
setback requirements for unrsinforeed rockeries. The use of Tenser or other geotestiis
reinforcement may be necessary depending on final plan locations and grades.
it should be noted that rockeries are not retaining structures. Their primary function Is to face
stable slopes and protect them from oroseon and sloughing. Therefore, the materials in a
rockery face cut skips should consist of relatively dense strata. It should also be realised that
rockeries, even when they are properly constructed, are maintenance items similar to asphalt
pavement. Therefore, any rockery should be periodically inspected and maintained as required.
Rockeries should be located so that they are readily accessible for a contractor's equipment if
repairs become necessary.
5.0 CLOSURE
The integrity of any construction project depends on proper site preparation, fill placement and
construction procedures. We recommend that AEE provide geotachnial engineering services
during earthwork, as well as foundation and utility construction phases of this project to
monitor and document that work is performed in accordance with our recommendations and
common construction practices.
5
