APPENDIX A
Subsurface [xploratfon
W-7352

Field Expioration
The fieid exploration program conducted for this study consisted of excavating a total of
12 test pits and the advancement of two borings. The approximate exploration locations
are illustrated on the Site and Exploration Plan, Figure 1. The exploration locations were
obtained in the field by hand-held compass and taping ftom the corners of the property,
and pacing. Elevations of the explorations were obtained by interpolation between
contours on tne Site Plan provided by your office.
Test Pit Excavations
The test pits were excavated with a rubber-tired backhoe on 28 March 1991 by a local
excavating contractor under subcontract to our firm. These tesr pits were logged and
observed by an experienced engineering geologist from our firm. Dis!urbed, but
representative, samples of the soils in the test pits were retrieved, classified in the field,
and transported to our laboratory in water tight containers for further evaluation and
classification. The test pit logs are presented in this Appendix and are based upon the
inspection of the samples secured and the field logs. The relative soil densities iidicated
on the test pit logs are interpretive descriptions based on the conditions observed during
excavation.
