� �� <br />�' <br />� <br />�3� �r <br />APPENDIX B <br />W-7352 <br />LABORATORY TESTING PROCEDURES <br />A series of laboratory tests were performed during the course of this study to evaluate <br />the index and geotechnical engineering properties of the subsurface soils. Descriptions <br />of the types of tests performed are given below. <br />Visual Classitication <br />Samples recovered from the exploration focations were visually classified in the field <br />during the exploration program. Representative portions of the samples were carefully <br />packaged in water tight containers and transported to our iaboratory where the field <br />classifications were verified or modified as required. Visual classification was done in <br />general accordance with the United Soil Classification system. Visual soil classification <br />includes color, relative moisture content, soil type based on grain size, and accessory <br />soil types included in the sample. Soil classifications are presented on the exploration <br />logs in Appendix A. <br />Mofsture Content Delerminattons <br />Moisture content determinations were performed on representative samples obtained <br />from the explorations in order to aid in identification and correlation of soil types. The <br />determinations were made in general accordance with the test procedures described in <br />r ASTM:D-2216. The results of the tests are presented graphically on the boring logs in <br />Appendix A. <br />Grain Size Analysis <br />A grain size analysis indicates the range in diameter of soil particies included in a <br />� particular sample. Grain size analyses were performed on representative samples in <br />general accordance with ASTM:D-422.
