I
r The stream channel would be excavated [rom the materials on-site, and topsoil would
be added (and other amendments as needed depending on existing soil chemistry) to the
p banks of the channel and tlie corridor, to provide a more suitable growing medium. The
bottom of the channel would be excavated to a depth that allows placemal orf other smal
cobbles to provide a natural substrate at the appropriate grade. Quarry p
w riprap, appropriate for the anticipated stream velociry, would be placed about half way up
the sides of the stream banks. All areas will be seeded with grasses suitable for erosion
control at the rate of 120 ibs/acre (Table 1). A natural Gber geotextile (made of coir)
'a would be placed on the upper portion of the side slopes of the channel over the grass seed
• (Figure 3). Upslope o[ the coir [abric installation, jut matting would be placed over stcaw
to provide side-slope stability and erosion protection within the overflow channel. Table 1
'°" presents the treatments proposcd for differcnt zones of the cross sections depicted in Figures
3 and 4.
" Step 2. The second step of the project would be to install the bioengineering features
` and add other vegetation. The primary bioengineering feawres used for bank protection
are expected to be live stakcs and fascines (Figurc S). 'Chese types of installation are
typically conducted during thc fall and winter whcn the plant materials are in their dormant
` season.
 A donor site would be used to provide some of the plant materials needed for the
 bioengineering portion of the project. Materials would Ue collected Crom the existing stream
,, corridor and thc hill slopes west of the creek. An off-sitc donor area has been identi6ed
. along a portion of the SeatUe City Light power line right-of-way east of Everett, which
would provide the bulk of the plants for the project. 'Che balance of the plant materials
,.i would be purchased at a nursery.
-
The plant species proposed for each of the treatments shown in Figures 3 and 4 are
i listed in Table 1. Species were selected based on their suitability for inclusion in
 bioengineering solutions, emironmental needs (soils, moismre, exposure), their value for
wildlife, and availability.
4a -,_,.. , .
; :::
'  `F
Phase 2 <za"
i 7 y •'
r The channel configuration proposed in Phase 2 is nearly identical to that proposed
 { a.r,.,',:
for Phase 1. This phase would relocate approximately 1,250 feet of channel and would a' r' ,
i yy. r
move the creek farther away from its present course than does Phase 1.
:=y
.. _ _ ' : ;;v"t,,
' ,;;>i ,
' ` scncaule .t;e'cs.
 ., _.
The proposed construction schedule is presented in Table 2. .,, ,•
; t,,.  ,;
  : , r „ , r.  .

.
