CASCADE GEOTECHNICAL INC.
June 2, IWI
* a design life of twenty (20) yeais
Job No. 9405-02G
Our analysis of the pavement =tion options was based on design procedures outlined in the
1986 AASHTO design manual. The analysis was performed using AASHTO's pavement design
computer program.
6.2 Reinforced Earth Wall Design
We performed engineering analyses on two selected reinforced wall systems. These include the
Terramesh System*, by Maccaferri Gabions*, and a wrap -around face reinforced earth wall
using Tensar4 geogrids.
The trramesh type wall was analyzed utilizing the computer program TERRA -AM, dated
October, 1992, produced for analysis of Terramesh Systems. This program is based on
calculation procedures given in the publication entitled "Maccaferri Gabions-Terramesh System",
dated 1990. The Tensar geogrid reinforced wall design was based on design procedures outlined
in "Tenser Technical Note - Guidelines for the Design of Tensar Geogrid Reinforced Soil
Retaining Walls% dated August, 1986. A computer program based on these design procedures
and entitled "TENSWAL", version 3.1, dated May 17, 1992, was utilized for design of this
earth retaining system.
7.0 CONCLUSIONS
We conclude that the site is geotechnically suitable for the proposed project, provided our
geotechnical recommendations are carefully followed during the development of the project.
Based on the results of our field investigation, we conclude that the proposed building loads may
be transferred to bearing soil utilizing a standard spread footing foundation with slab -on -grade
floors. Geotechnical recommendations for building placement are given below.
8
