HOUSING CODE IlVSPECTION REPORT
FROM: MARIAN DENT, CITY OF EVERETi , HOUSING INSPECTOR
DATE: March 7, 1994
SUBJ: 2506 Highland Ave, Everett, WA
During my inspection of this house on March 1, 1994 the tnant told me that bricks on
the inside of the chimney had fallen, and blocked the vent of the gas hot water tank
which is connected to the chimney. She explained that a repairman from the gas
wmpany had been called out to the house and he discovered this problem. He advised
her that the vent being blocked was causing carbon monoxide to be released back into
the house. The repairman shut the gas off until the vent wuld be cleared. The tenant
called the owners of the house and they removed bricks that were blocking the vent.
The chimney is situated in the middle of the house and is covered with wallboard. The
hot water tank, which is located in the kitchen, accesses the chimney in the kitchen.
The tenant called again today and stated that more bricks had fallen in the chimney and
blocked the gas vent. The gas repairman came out again and shut the gas off.
I explained to the tenant that it is the responsibility of the owners of the property to all
necessary repairs to the chimney to prevent this problem from recurring.
Since the City does not inspect the inner chimney, and there is a danger to the
occupants of the house being exposed to carbon monoxide. The City will require the
owners to obtain the services of a chimney sweep to inspect the chimney and determine
the extent of damage. The owners will be required to make repairs as necessary.
The owners will be
contact the Building
correct the problem.
s

given notice of this report and given until March 14, 1994 to
Inspection Division with a solution to the problem, or begin to
