11 <br /> OPO%b //mg:A1 <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 5189 <br /> A RESOLUTION of the City Council of Everett, <br /> Washington, authorizing further financial support <br /> in an amount of$20,000 to assist with planning, <br /> conference arrangements and representation in presenting <br /> the City's application to become an All-America City <br /> WHEREAS,the City Council on November 28, 2001, voted unanimously to <br /> encourage Everett's participation in the All-America City program, recognizing the <br /> relationship between the program and the community's achievements; and <br /> WHEREAS, a budget amendment was authorized in the amount of$5,000 to <br /> support the committee's early efforts and planning; and <br /> WHEREAS,the City of Everett was selected by the National Civic League on <br /> May 1, 2002, as a finalist in the All-America City competition, the nation's oldest and <br /> most respected community recognition; and <br /> WHEREAS, the National Civic League's annual conference announcing the 10 <br /> All-America City winners will be held in Kansas City, Missouri, June 13-15, 2002; and <br /> WHEREAS, citizens involved in Everett's three finalist projects are important in <br /> providing background and information on these community successes; and <br /> WHEREAS, some of the expenses for representatives to attend the conference <br /> will be financed by individual participants or their employers with additional financial <br /> support provided through fund-raising; and <br /> WHEREAS, in order to expedite the planning in the brief period of time <br /> available, and to obtain the best airline and hotel rates for the conference, financial <br /> support is required to facilitate the necessary conference arrangements. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE,the Mayor and the City Council commend the dedication <br /> and effort of the steering committee and their success in advancing the City of Everett to <br /> a finalist, and agree to provide further financial support in an amount of$20,000 to assist <br /> the committee with planning, conference arrangements and representation in presenting <br /> the City's application to become an All-America City. <br /> Dale Pope, Councilmember 1/e ducing <br /> Resolution <br />
