OPii%v/N7A1 <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 5162 <br /> • <br /> A RESOLUTION supporting a Library Services and Technology Act <br /> Cultural Diversity Grant 2002 application for the funds to provide <br /> enhanced service to non-English speaking residents of Everett. <br /> WHEREAS, Everett's population includes a growing number of immigrants for <br /> whom English is not a first language, and who come from countries without the <br /> benefits provided by public libraries. <br /> WHEREAS, these residents would benefit from increased access to materials to <br /> help them learn English, books in their own language to help them share their <br /> heritage with their children, and a knowledge of the resources available at the <br /> library for people of all ages and interests. <br /> WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City of Everett to improve the opportunities its <br /> citizens have to become active, contributing members of society. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Everett that <br /> the City of Everett lends its full support and endorsement to the Library's <br /> application for grant funds under the Library Services and Technology Act <br /> (LSTA) Cultural Diversity 2002, and the Mayor is authorized to execute all <br /> applications and grant contracts related thereto, and the execution of the grant <br /> itself, if, as, and when awarded. <br /> Councilperson Introducing Resolution <br /> PASSED and APPROVED this 27tlalay of February , 2002. <br /> r _ <br /> ouncil President — <br />
