January 27, 2005
Department of Planning and Community Development
City of Everett
2930 Wetmore Ave
Suite 8A
Everett, WA 98201
Attn: Planning Commission
To whom it may concern:
n UND r
J r.? J 1 9005
t',IT-Y OF EV El ET
P!annir-r. 0,ept.
My name is Jane O'Brian. My husband Steven and I live at 1415 Lombard Ave here in
Everett. We moved into our Donovan home three years ago this coming April.
Our concern in the destruction of the Donovan homes on the 13 blocks of Rockefeller
and Oaks lie not only in our love of these homes and the beauty and charm they add to
our neighborhood, but more importantly what the destruction of these homes and ultimate
plans of Providence Hospital to create expanded facilities will mean to our children and
the children in this neighborhood.
My husband and I have two boys, ages 3 and 5. Both children are severely autistic.
Because of this our children have no sense of safety. Many times my boys have escaped
out of our home and out into the streets. Traffic on our street and the adjoining streets
can be very busy. Many motorists have no respect for the speed limits. We feel if the
hospital is allowed to expand its borders east if will create an even greater influx of traffic
which would impose a greater hazard not only to our children but also to other children in
our neighborhood who have physical and mental disabilities; as well as the children who
walk to and back each day to Whittier Elementary School.
We strongly urge you to take into consideration how this expansion of the hospital would
impact not only us as homeowners but our children and their safety. We love our
neighborhood and take a tremendous amount of pride not only in our own personal
achievements in these homes but in the legacy that Mr. Allen and Mr. Donovan began
nearly 80 years ago, a legacy we hope to continue well into the future. Thank you for
your time and consideration in this matter.
Sincerely,
v .
Jane E. O'Brian
Donovan Homeowner
