PROCLAMATION <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Everett is home to a rich and vibrant <br /> population of diverse ethnic backgrounds that are of great importance <br /> to both the history and future of our community; and <br /> WHEREAS, each year the residents of Everett remember and <br /> honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by participating in civic <br /> events and service activities that reflect Dr. King's enduring <br /> commitment to the basic principles of freedom, justice and equality <br /> for all; and <br /> WHEREAS, the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is a <br /> national holiday celebrated this year on Monday, January 16; and <br /> WHEREAS, our community will celebrate his legacy through <br /> several events, beginning January 10 with the film screening of <br /> "Smoke Signals" at Everett Community College, and <br /> WHEREAS, January 11 events include a Diversity Partnering <br /> Breakfast, a march through downtown Everett, and a community <br /> celebration featuring Native American author Sherman Alexie as the <br /> keynote speaker; and <br /> WHEREAS, at 4 p.m., January 15, the Interfaith Association of <br /> Snohomish County will hold its annual celebration at First United <br /> Methodist Church entitled "State of the Dream-2006 and Beyond," <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ray Stephanson, Mayor of the City of <br /> Everett, do hereby proclaim January 11 through 16 <br /> DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAYS <br /> in the City of Everett. <br /> Signed this 4th day of January 2006. <br /> Mayor Ray Stephanson <br />
