RESOLUTION NO. 5087 <br /> A RESOLUTION Authorizing the Temporary <br /> Waiver of Everett Transit Fees in Response <br /> to the SR 529 Construction <br /> WHEREAS,the Washington State Department of Transportation has closed all or part of <br /> SR 529 for repairs for approximately forty(40) days; and <br /> WHEREAS, many of Everett's streets have become extremely congested as a result of <br /> the SR 529 construction closure; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Everett has the largest employment base in Snohomish County; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, Everett is concerned about the adverse impact this road project has on <br /> Everett's citizens and visitors; and <br /> WHEREAS, Everett is concerned about the adverse impact this road project has on those <br /> conducting business and employed in the City of Everett; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Mayor has directed the Everett Police Department to assist in providing <br /> increased patrol and personnel to deal with the congestion; and <br /> WHERES, in response to this situation, Everett Transit has already redeployed some of <br /> its routes, has commenced shuttle service in NE Everett, has added additional buses and <br /> has been placing drivers and supervisors on overtime; and <br /> WHEREAS, Everett Transit has the capability of quickly responding to transit needs <br /> within the City of Everett and for its customers; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Everett recognizes that waiving the existing transit fare on <br /> Everett Transit buses for this interim period of time may encourage residents and visitors <br /> to use the bus for their daily commute in order to reduce the number of vehicles on the <br /> roadway; and <br /> WHEREAS,the City Council has jurisdiction over transit fare policy; <br />
