/74%,:gi <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 4932 <br /> A JOINT RESOLUTION of the Everett City Council <br /> and the Mayor of Everett in which the City of Everett <br /> adopts the USS Abraham Lincoln <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Everett, Washington, under the leadership of United <br /> States Senator Henry M. Jackson, Everett Mayor Bill Moore, and many civic leaders <br /> worked tirelessly and effectively to convince the U.S. Navy that Everett was an ideal <br /> strategic location for a carrier battle group home port; and <br /> WHEREAS, Naval Station Everett became a reality with a ribbon cutting <br /> ceremony in 1994; and <br /> WHEREAS, in January of 1997, the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and <br /> her dedicated officers and crew arrived at their new home port, Naval Station Everett; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, the USS Abraham Lincoln plays an important role in protecting our <br /> nation and maintaining peace throughout the world, particularly in the Middle East; and <br /> WHEREAS, the officers and crew members of the USS Abraham Lincoln and <br /> their families have become active in our churches, schools and civic associations, <br /> coaching youth sports, mentoring young children, and otherwise involved in our <br /> community in many positive ways; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Everett wishes to celebrate and commemorate the unique <br /> and special relationships which have been forged between the businesses and citizens of <br /> Everett and the men and women of the Lincoln and their families through the traditional <br /> "adoption" by the City of the USS Abraham Lincoln; and <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Everett hereby <br /> adopts the USS Abraham Lincoln; and <br />
