July 10,1997 5 973-1164 <br /> Colluvium was found in Station 3 below a depth of four feet and in Station 4 <br /> ^ below a depth of three feet. The mlluvium in Station 3 mnsisted of a mmpact, <br /> moderate yellowish brown,silty marse to fine sand with some coarse to fine <br /> gravel and a trace of organics and wood debtis. The mlluvium enmuntered in <br /> � Station 4 was a]ayer of marse to fine gravel with some silt and coarse to fize <br /> sand. Water was preaent in Station 4 at a depth of approximately three-and-a- <br /> half feet. We believe that a colluvium layer mantled the slope prior to the slope <br /> failure. <br /> � Fill-Fill is a generic term used to classify soils that have been placed by humans, <br /> typically for the purpose of aite grading and mnstruction Fill cam m�sist of on- <br /> aiEe uaterial that has been cut and regraded,or oHsite(imported)materiaL <br /> Standarde for the placement of fill for construction purpases require that it be <br /> mmpacted to assure ib ability to support structurns and if placed on a slope, <br /> pmperly benched or keyed inlo the slope in order to assure stability. <br /> � We observed Fill at the crest of the main scarp at Station 5 at a depth of six <br /> ' inches. The fill mnsisted of loose :o compact,dark yellowish brown,silty coarse <br /> to fine sand and gravel with abundant roob and rootlets and wood debris. <br /> � Several claets of the underlying till unit wern also found mixed with the fill. The <br /> ' Sll material along with mlluvium made up most of the material involved in the <br /> mud/debris failure. Them was not a aharp oontact between the fill with the <br /> ` � underlying Recessional Outwash,but we estimate the thickness of the fill at the <br /> ' crest of the slope to be about four to five feet. <br /> ' Mud/Landslide Debris-Mud/Landslide Debris material is soil and organic debris <br /> that was involved in the rncent slope faIlure. This material includes all soils that <br /> have moved downslope,and may mntain a mixture of rnlluvium,fill and native <br /> soils. The debris was saturated at the time of slope movement <br /> The debris flow material was found at the surface in the lower portioiu of the <br /> ` body of the alide. Thia material was also found at Station 3 to a depth of four feet <br /> , and in Station 4 to a depth of two feet. The debris flow material consisted of <br /> loose,dark yellowish brown,medium to fine sandy clayey silt to silty medium to <br /> ' fine sand,some coarse to fine gravel and abundant organic and wood debris. At <br /> a depth of ttvo to three feet in Station 4 we enmuntered a layer of what <br /> appeared to be an older mud/landslide debris]ayer since there wern signs of <br /> ' ' vegetation between the old and new mud/landslide debris deposits. Minor <br /> groundwater seeps wern observed in the mud/debris in the lower portion of the <br /> slide at Station 4. <br /> The approxunate geologic mnhcts in the slide area are shown in Cross Section B-B'on <br /> Figure 2. • <br /> " Golder Associafes <br />
