N
p Everett School District W-6884
 ., 15 June 1990 Page 10
Y N

"' prepared to control water seepage from precipitation or seepage with the use of
` interceptor trenches or pumped sumps prior to site work and construction. Site grades
H should be planned to slope away from the building in order to minimize the potential for
N ponding in, or adjacent to, the buildng area.
N
o N We recommend that all buildings be provided with a perimeter foun da tion drain sys tem
g r to collect any groundwater seepage water. This drain should consist of a perforated
a pipe within an envelope of pea gravel or washed rock, extending outward at least 6
inches on ali sides of the pipe. The drain should encircle the exterior of all foundation
walls approximately at the base elevation of the footings. The perimeter drainage system
should discharge by tightline to a storm sewer or other suitable discharge point, ideally
by graviry. Roof- and surface-runoff water should not discharge into the foundation drain
. system; instead, a separate tightline drain system or splash blocks should be installed.
CLOSURE
--.,\ The conclusions and recommendations contained in this report are basd on the
I, ' explorations accomplished for this study and on our understanding of the proposed
projecL The number, location, and depth of our explorations were completed within the
site, schedule, budyet, and proposal constraints so as to yield adequate inf, rrriation to
formulate our recommendations. The integrity and performance of the oundations
depends largely on proper site preparation and construction procedures. RZA is
. available to provide geotechnical engineering services throughout the eartiiwork and
I construction phases of the project. If variations in the subsurface conditions are
observed at that time, R7J would be able to provide additional geotechnical
1 recommendations to minimize delays as the project deveops.
' 1 1
, '_1_'
--- '
