I am impressed! That certainly pales my seniority in ' + '-
hull number 864. Confirming our discussion, l have personally reviewed the comments . ;sei;
on your plans, and 1 support the professional judgment expressed by Mr. Tom Thetford , .,,,
as both good civil engineering and public works maintenance practice, but I must also . ';';
agree that our transmittal of Tom's comments on your check prints was a little difficult
to read in places. However, legible written comments were also attached which may
not have been brought to your attention, and I have had them typed with a copy attached
for your use.
Relative to tight lining the roof drains, the intent is to keep runoff from flowing across
the sidewalks which could cause a slipping hazard when winter freezing temperatures
are a distinct possibility. Discharging from the roof drains into the planters is acceptable
provided the planters can receive all the runoff. Discharging onto the paved areas
is undesirable as pointed out, and my suggestion is to delete the words,"or onto paved
areas" in note number 8 on Sheet SP.
Since the drainage calculations accompanying your plans included on-site detention,
we assumed you were considering this in your design even though it was not shown
on the plans. To avoid any possible misunderstanding, we pointed out that detention
was not required, but that a gas trap with oil separator must be included. This was
included in the SEPA review last February which should have been sent to you at tliat
time. A copy of the outlet trap detail from the City's Developers Guide and Construction
Standards is attached. This should be incorporated into the design for Catch Basin
No. 1 whtch is closest to the receiving sewer.
I agree wlth you that where rnnstruction standards are common knovledge, they need
only be referenced on the plans which saves drafting time. However, we have found
that often contractors do not have the City Standards let alone the APWA Standards.
Therefore, time and money to both the dient and City is saved in the long run by including
details such as the drop connedion for manholes, APWA Standard Plan No. 43 (copy
attached). As you {mow it is not difficult to make reproducible copies of these Standards
and affix them to a detail sheet.
_
