Gentlemen:
In accordance with your request and within the scope of our
proposal dated September 11, 1960 this report presents the re-
sults of our Geotechnical Engineering Study for the subject pro-
, ject. We performed the previous referenced study for the sub-
ject site to evaluate feasibility of site development. The pur-
- pose of this study was to explore the subsurface soil conditions
tu greater depths in order to provide specific recommendatioWall
for site preparation, foundationr basement and/or retaining
_ design for the proposed hotel and convention center. The scope
of this stdy included borings, laboratory tests, geotechnical
engineering analyses and the preparation of this report.
-' Our stud} indicates that the site is underlain by medium
dense sandy silt, silty sand beneath loose surficial soils. Be-
neath these medium dense sandy silty soils, very dense, overcon-
- solidated gravelly silty sands, (glacial till) are present. The
proposed hotel and convention center may be supported on conven-
'.:ional spread footings based in the dense glacial till soils at
the basement level, and on the near-surface medium dense native
soils for the single-story section of the planned faci;ity.
The following sections describe the study and explain our
 recommendations in greater detail.
