The Washington State Energy Code (WSEC) requires the following minimum levels <br />of insulation: <br />Ceilings R-30 <br />Walls R-19 <br />Floors R-19 <br />The depth of the insulation can at times dictate the size of the framing members, for <br />instance, R-30 insulation is approximately 9 to 10 inches thick and will not fit into a <br />71h inch framing cavity (2x8). The energy code also requires a minimum 1 inch <br />clear air space over insulation in an attic or vaulted ceiling. <br />Provide new rafter and stud size. Specify species and grade of all framing members. <br />2. When the valuation of an addition to a Group R Occupancy exceeds $1,000, smoke <br />detectors shall be installed in accordance with Section 310.9.1.3, 310.9.1.4 and <br />310.9.1.5 of the Uniform Building Code (UBC). <br />Detectors shall be installed in each sleeping room and in the corridor or area giving <br />access to each separate sleeping area. <br />3. The two bedrooms located in the "garage addition" were done without permits.
