.-
To: Larry Callahan
From: Marian Dent `!
Date: Sept. 6, 1935
Subj: 5910 Oakes; Dr. Yearout, Veterinarian
On Sept. 4th I investigated the complaint concerning Dr. Yearout conductin9
his Veterinary practice out of his residence located at 5910 Oakes.
Nhen I drove up in front of his house a young woman was coming out of the
house with a kitten in her arms.
I knocked on the door and Dr. Yearout answered. I identified myself and
he invited me in. There was a lady sitting on the couch in the iiving
room and she had a turtle about the size of a saftball in her hands. Dr.
Yearout asked if I wnuld wait until he was done with the situation concerning
the turtle. I said yes and waited at the front door during his examination
of the turtle.
Nhile I was waiting, I observed the living room and part of the dinning
room which were quite neat. This area did not appear to be an examination
room for animals. Dr. Yearout was examining the turtle and talking to the
lady about the sore on the turtles neck which ha1 a slight secreation.
The Dr. was asking questions about the turtles riet and about vitamins
she was giving the turtle. She couldn't remember the name brand so, Dr.
Vearout left the room, went up stairs and returned with a small jar
of vitamins. He did not sell the vitamins to her at that time.
Dr. Yearout had a box similar to a fish tackle box and in it were various
small jars which he used two or three to fill a small syringe. He than
ijected the contents of the syringe into the turtle.
Upon leaving, the lady asked how much she owed him and he said five
dollars, which she gave to him in cash.
Dr. Yearout and I had a conversation about him conducting business at his
residence. He was quite persistant about doing no wrong. I explained tha
he was granted permission to use his residence as a base of operatfons,
conducting his services for clients at their residences, not his. He said
there are about two vehicles a day with clients coming to his residence
and 85% of his business was coducted away from his residence. He also
said that the City of Everett Animal Control Shelter creates traffic at his
residence when thry bring animals to his house.
He said he never had a fox at his house which was a part of the complaint.
I informed Dr. Yearout that I would submit my report to the staff inembers
and he would 'oe contacted concerning a decision about his business.
cc: Jim Langus
Pearl Maddy
