The wall footings had been formed and the reinforcing steel was in place. The c�ils expo:,ed in the base of the footit;� excavations varied from fresh glacial till at the west side of the building to weathered till at the east side. A' several points, the footings had been stepped down to be below organic z�nes. Some standing water and softened soil were observed in footing trenches at the seutheast portion of the build- ing. These arcas should be drained and the softened soils removed nrior to pouring concrete. Thr_ wall footings �oere based in the soil strata recommended in our geotechnical report dated September 21, 1977. The areas for interior columns had been roughly excavated but not completed at the time of our vi.sit. All loose material should be removed irom these areas down to light brown and gray, silty sand with gravel (weathered glacial till) . It should be mentioned that it was raining at the tiiae of our observati.ons. As state3 in our previous report, the bearing soils are moisture sensi::ive and will become loosened when disturbed under wet conditions. W ter should not be allowed to stand in footing excavations and all loosened soils si�ould be removed down to firm, undisturbed soil prior to placing concrete.
