Bennett <br />Subject: Diacuseion on abatement of d'.lapidatad buildinga. <br />In accordance wlth your directions, Chief Smith, Hille Collina, Lawrence <br />Lrickson, Frank �Voltring and I investigated the best method of imple- <br />menting a program to get rid of dilaptdated and dangerous buildinga. <br />It wad the consensus of all present that the simpleet and most oUvious <br />method would be the strict adhereace to and enforcement of Section 203 of <br />the Untform Building Gode �vhich has been an ordinance of the City for inan}� <br />years. <br />Thls Code permite the Building Inapector, upon determining that a building <br />ie dangerous, to notify the owner to repair or demolish the etructure and <br />to commence auch work withtn 48 hours of receiving the notice. It also <br />permita, with approval of the City Council, prosecution of those owners who <br />fall to comply with the order and in addition allowa the City Council to <br />inatruct the Building Inspector to proceed with the work, paid for by the city <br />and levied ae a apecial asseesment against the property. <br />Therefore, to get thie program icnpleir,ented, the Bu[lding Inspector lias <br />iudicated he will start immediate proceedings under eaid Section 7.03 of <br />the U. B.
