It would appear that there may be some misunderstanding of the situation under discussion. Second exits are required from all occupied basements. Storage of records in the basement constitutes occupancy according to the Uniform Building Code. It is understood that your letter is a request for a waiver of the requirement for a second exit, even though there is no such direct statement. The request for such a waiver is hereby granred, subject to the following conditions: 1. 2. The basement area is to be used solely for die dead storage of inedical records. A smoke detector, wired directly to the Control Panel and transmitting a distinct fire alarm from Qie monitored premises, is provided in the basement area. 3. The arrangement is subject to annual review. This waiver is granred for die following reasons: The basement consists of two small rooms, each having window access for firefighting purposes. There is no practical way of providing a second exit from this rer/ small basement. It is expected that this will be a short-term occupancy since the firm may be required to move at the request of the owner, Providence Hospital.
