1.

' Proposed McCabe Residrnce Remodel
Everett, Washington
Projxt No. 6G-9701022
Page 6
• Replece the existinQ drein line that dischuQd on the slope east of the house with an
wdartmged, non-perforated pipe that ia routed to a suitable diecherae location such as a
torm ewer or t6e bottom of the dope.
• Construct ght line dixherge pipa tbr footing and roof drains, with cleanouts at
eppropriau locetions for effective inspcction end maintemnce, which drain by graviry to
a suitable discherge location such as tix bottom of slope or a stoim drsin.
• Cochuct a new 6ench dain along du top of the slope on the north and aat sides of the
site. The drains should extend as far souih and west as siu cnstrais pecnut, and lwuld
extend aa dap tlx gade w the discharge location allows, at la+st ? to 4 fat dap et the
shallowat point . The new drsin should be a graviry system, and should not depend on
elcetric pumps. A minimum 6-inch diuneter pipe slould be situated in a trtnch at tesst
18 inctks wide and filled with pea gravel or washcd mund rock to within 6 inches of the
ground surfece. The upper siu inches could be covered with planting soi t md sceded with
geass. My cover for the dcaiu should not impede infiltration of surfece water co the dain.
Waste soil generated from conshvc6on of the French dcain should not be plecxd on or
above the slope, but shoutd be recnoved &om the site or at least piaced in m area distmt
from site slopes.
• Refrain from placing any additional yerd vveste, fill meteriel, consttuction material
stockpiles, or other surcherges betwan the house and top of tFe slope, and considec
removiag any accessible existing yard waste or other debris from the tops of the slopes.
Remove the fil( wedge and rockery from below the deck. This fill is in a particulariy poor
loca6on, is loose, and provides a good reservoir for perched groundwater. The fill does
not appear to serve a useful piupose with the present site configuradon.
• Instell some focm of leak conteinment and/or leak detcction for the outdoor spe.
 .:,: :, • .: „
Based upon the subsurface conditions encountercd during exploradon, the following site
preparation procedures have been developed end include recommendations rogarding site drainage,
stripping, subgrade protection, proofrolling end subgrade compacdon. In order to reduce the potential
for movement of slopes on or adjacent to the site as a rcsult of construction activides, slope movement
risk reduction measures should be implemrnted first, followd by site preparation. Earthwork duting the
dry summer months between about May and September, and carefiil management of site dtainege would
also provide lower risks of slope movement during construcdon.
