C
r' 05 <a
February 9, 1985
......__
CITY OF EVERETT
Pn!'c V'rks De,r.t.
City of F.verett
City Hall
Everett, WA 98201
Attention: Larry Crawford
Dept. of Public S9orks
Dear Sir:
I wish to notify the City of Everett of my objection to
the City's approval of a permit allowing Our Savior's
Lutheran Church to remove trees and undergrowth from within
and near the Dogwood Elm Drainage Basin in the City of
Everett. Our family home is located on the top of the
ravine and drainage basin and we are extremely concerned
about the effect of deforestation and actual removal of root
systems and foliage on the erosion patterns in the drainage
basin area.
On December 26, 1989, we contacted Our Savior's Lutheran
Church about some tree-cutting across the ravine and we were
advised that the Church had arranged to trim out some of the
Alder trees on their property. It was not until this last
week-end that we learned of a Church plan to cut all of the
Alder trees on Church property including property to the
North of the drainage basin which abuts our real propert}>.
in examining closely the cutting patterns which have occurred
to date, it appears that the Church has removed a number of
Alder trees on the bank of the drainage basin and much of
the undergrowth which grew there prior to their excavation.
As residents on the drainage basin, we are most concerned
bout the delicacy of the ravine and the stability of our
home in light of the activities which have occurred to date.
Over the past eight years, the ravine and bank have been
relatively stable, however, it may not continue to be so in
the future without the plant life to reduce the erosion and
to absorb the run-off which at times is heavy. It is our
intention to secure some expert assistance to evaliiate the
potential danger to our home as a result of the Church's
intended activities and to do what is necessary r.o insure
its structural integrity.

H H
HM
H N
t
.a
6

H
z

N

 M

.

a'
N
N
