February 2 1970
Idr. ,1nes Johnson
3718 Muk3lteo Ellvd.
Ever-3tt Washington 98201
Dear tdr. Johnson:
Fieference here :s o '.ho offensive odors in the basement 6athroom of
your residance.
Friday Janunry 30 1970 with Wayne Fordham of ihe Snohomish fiealth
District I made a very careful inspection of thfe basement bathroom
facilities in your residence 3718_f,Aukilteo Blvd.
The prirrry purpose of the inspection was to clatermine i£ possible
how the odor was getting into fhe bathroom. This vE rere unable to
do conclusively. Ple were howevor able to observe some points which
may have a bearing upn the subject.
a. ThQ basemer,t bathroom fixtures - toilt-basin-shower-are un-
vented.
b, They appee.r to be connected direct to the hause drain about
25 feet f;om the main vent.
c. All plumbing vents now on the residence have an area oP 6 1/8
inches. Minimum for a residence conected to r public sewer
system is 12 inches venting area At roof line.
Ple believe it extremely doubtful {he odor is r_ominn, into the bathroom
through the iixtures. The odor appears to us to be entering around
the base of the toilet bowl at floor levol. Should this prove true
odors of any kind including sewer Pas could enter the bathroom
which vould be an extremely unheaithy ituation.
