As detailed belov there are several items vhich vill
need to be completed prior to our acceptance of the pump installation.
The fire pump vas flow tested through a 3 1/2 in, test header ae various
flovs ehroughout it•s range, end vas also subeeted to a seziee c+f
automatic and manual starts, Ihe ptuop snd it's cor.troller wre found to
operate vell throughout it's operating range, up to a maximun Flov of 2,SGU
gallons per minute.
Though the punp itself opezated vell, there is a concern :egarding the
\ inoming vater supply to the site. A :ire hydrant test vas also conduc:ed
) on the day of the purp teat. The hydrant next to the pumphouse vas floved
vih pressure taken from a hydrant at the soatheast corner of Buildinb g,
The test results are 45 psi static, reducinQ to 25 psi at a flov of 1,33G
SPm• T'his ia aignificantly different that the resulta of Che test
conducted at the site by Smith Fire Systems on Decenber 18, ]996. The
results of the December test vere static_pressur5a psi_cedtcing co 30 psi
_— at a flov of-2;>24 gpm, The settzng of the pzessure reducins valve'i's--
likely the reeson Zot Lhe ditfezence.
Please provide a responee to us regarding the folloving recormendations.
1• The preasure rediacing valve on one of the tvo incoming lead-ins Co the
site should prefetably be renoved. 1 do not have a detailed understanding
of the vater suppl}• to this site, but believe that a pressure reducing
valve at this particular site is unnecessary, and is adversely affecting
the vater supply to this site.
If the pressure reducir,g valve Rust stay, then the setting on the valve
sAould be changed such that th= vater supply at the site is ae it vas
during Che December 1996 test. The concern vith the present setting is
that the ineoning vater pressure d:ops belo 20 psi vhen the fire pump is
operating at it's higher Elevs.
