PUBL/C K/O«KS
OO [p
July 18, 1997 .
Lori Kaiser, General Manager
Port Chatham Seafood
1930B Merrill Cr. PKWY
. Everett, Wash. 98203
Subj: Water Pressure
Dear Ms. [aiser:
At a meeting on July 9, 1997 you inquired about potential future water pressure for Port Chatham
Seafood and expressed your concem regarding periodic pressure swings of approximately ]0
pounds per square inch (PSI)that can last for more than an hour.
I have re-run our computer model for southwest Everett to project future water pressure for your
business. Over the next 20 years, your water pressure on the highest demand day of the year
(generally during June, July or August near the end of an extended drought) is projected to
decrease by approximately 4 PSI. This pressure drop will be due to an increased water demand
that is expected to occur as the vacant land in southwest Evcrett is developed. 7'he actual water
pressure drop that ultimately occurs will be highly dependent upon the type of industry that
moves into southwest Everett(that is its water demand) and its proximity to Port Chatham
Seafood. Therefore, please remember that a 4 PSI pressure drop is an estimate only.
Regarding the pressure swings that ue currently occurring in southwest Everett, these pressure
swings are common when multiple pressure reducing valves supply an azea, as is the case for
southwest Everett. As we discussed at the July 9, 1997 meeting, the City could install a pressure
recorder on your site to quantify the magnitude and frequency of the pressure swings. However,
given tliat pressure swings are common in conditions similar to southwest Everett, it may be
more productive to meet and discuss further with you how the pressure swings affect your
operation.
o„,s
CITY OF EVEREIT•3200 Cedar Steet• Everett,WA 98201 •(206) 259-8800•Fax(206) 259-8882
