KEN WICK
530 MAIILSBY
EVERETT, WA. 98201
RE -Drainage tests pursuant to response dated 1/3/B6 and
conversation on 1/23/86.
Mr. Wick,
The City of Everett sent a crew to check: the integrity of
the public combined sewer and drainage system adjacent to
Your property on 1/24/86. The crew installed a hydraulic
plug on your side sewer and artificially flooded the system
with water from the fire hydrant. The hydrant was allowed to
flow unrestricted for approximately 30 minutes and during
this period no physical sign of leakage was evident at 'our
bulkhead. This is the location where you indicated that
problems had occured during the past flooding experience.
The City believes that this test confirms the suspicion
that, the subsurface flow and basement leaking problems that
have occured are the results of wastewater backing up in
Your sidesewer and leaking through your pipe into the areas
around the house and bulkhead.
As we discussed earlier physical changes that would resolve
all future flooding problems resulting from system back: up
would be to install a check valve at or near your property
line, replacement of your sidesewer where it is leaking, or
installing a grinder pump and pressure line. You must weigh
the advantages and disadvantages of each alternative and
resolve which will best suit you needs. If you install a
check: valve or a grinder pump it will require regular
maintenance.
If you have any question regarding these physical
modifications please call me at 259-8821.
Sincerely
Alfred R.
