ANDEMSO"
BRUCE E. ]ONES, City Attorney
November 25, 1959
1cctrical permits for Craftsmen
Construction Company
Art Palmer, Hersey Sampson and a third man (name not :mown met with Mayor
Anderson, i.arry Erickson rind 3utch Dougherty ,pertaining to atopping electrical wort: on
a house at 190i McDougall which is being renovated under a low income housing
program. Art Palmer stated that the men on the job were threatened with either
being sent to jail or stopping work. 3utch Dougherty explained that this was not the
case - it was merely explained to the worker'; that someone had to be responsible for
this work who had an electrical license and an electrical permit had to be obtained for
the installation. Until such person coi Id be located he told them they had to ito;)
wort: on the electrical installation.
Hersey Sampson stated that he got the building perin t and thought that with the
obtaining of the building permit that he was clear to eo ahead on the electrical
installation. Butch explained that this was not the case - that an electrical permit
was required and that to obtain an electrical permit it had to be by someone who
was under state bond and had a state electrical installation license.
The program which Craftsmen Construction Company, Hersey Sampson and
Art Palmer are working on was discussed at some length as another step toward
Improving the problem of urban blight, but it was explained that if the houses
are ':o sell in a low income bracket, that the cost of renovotion must be carefully
wat(hed, and further the contractor has to be aware of all of the proper steps that
must be taken -;o that he doesn't underestimate on his bid to renovate the house.
A was left that Use City would accept a-)ermit froin any licensed electrical contractor
who would apply for the permit on these li .ses. and hTr. Sampson would try to
iignsre out who had an electrical license tvho could apply for the permit. It was ilso
considered that perhaps i.?r. Sampson _should get his own electrical permit for this
and other work that he may be doing, he City would assist him in doing this. Also,
It was arranged that Butch and tarry Erickson would meet with h1r. Sampson or ;fir.
Palmer to go over some of the houses to determine how the work would have to be
done to brings the electrical wiring up to code.
B1:'i/bj
cc l.arry Erickson
notnh Vnivib arty tl-
