She was in a total leg splint because of eajor
]mee surgery 5 weeks ago, and is dependant completely upon crutl►ae.
There was moss and algae on the handicap walkwayt her crutch slipped
out from under her and she fell backwards over the curb into the
planting bed. landing on her back againat a protruding green box.
a light fixture, I believe.
We were very lu.cky that the only casualty was a$40 wool svreater
and grass etains on her dress. She was bruised and had a large
angry gash on her back where she landed on the metal box. Aside
from being atiff and sore she was very fortunate. Because Kim ia
a young basically healthy person with good hody control ehe
avoided disastrous injury. However. in her case ehe would have
been safer on the stairs.
.....
We called the manager, Jennifer Hewson out to see the aituation.
She agreed that the walkway needed immediate maintenance. It is
my understanding from you that building codes in the City of Everett
don't necessarily require a railing beside the ramp if there is
otte vertical wall and depending upon the degree of slope.
Common sense tells me that there should certainly be a r.ailing in
that particular location, Kim's fall would have been avoided if
there had been something to catch her or to grasp on to. The
curb only served to trip her,
It is our hope that Anthony's Home Port will put into effect
an immediate maintenance program of power washing to clean the
ramp, and would at least consider the inatallation of a railing.
tvhile the City of Everett may have no power to insist on these
measures, surely the restaurant would do more than the minimum
to insure eafety and convenience of it's infirmed patrons,
Yours truly,
x7f-.rs- la.ti.
Sharon L.
