zci e City of thwrett <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> WHEREAS, Charles Vivian established the Benevolent and Protective <br /> Order of Elks on February 16, 1868, in order to create an enduring <br /> organization committed to serving those in need; and <br /> WHEREAS, of those served, the Elks organization has been instrumental in <br /> providing aid and comfort to the veterans of our armed forces; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Order not only entertains veterans, but also provides much <br /> needed supplies and equipment to the hospitals and a wide range of smaller <br /> amenities to the veterans; and <br /> WHEREAS, during WWI, the Elks built a 70-bed hospital and gave it to the <br /> War Department in 1918. This was the first of what were to become the <br /> Veterans Administration medical facilities; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Elks have honored their pledge that "So long as there are <br /> veterans, the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks will never forget them," <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ray Stephanson, Mayor of Everett, do hereby <br /> proclaim November, 2006, as <br /> "VETERANS REMEMBRANCE MONTH" <br /> in the City of Everett and urge all community members to recognize the <br /> sacrifices made by our veterans and the benefits those sacrifices have <br /> granted us. <br /> Signed this 28th day of October 2006. <br /> Mayor Ray Stephanson <br />
