fr
In order to attract and retain quality businesses, we must provide a sound
infrastructure. Everett is the second-largest utility supplier of water in the State
of Washington. Through long-term planning, we are well-positioned to
accommodate residential and commercial growth over the next 34 years. This
budget upholds our investment to preserve and expand our regional utility. We
also propose to spend $1.6 million in 2007 for our street overlay program that
keeps our streets in good condition. Investing in our streets today will help us
avoid more costly repairs in the future.
Everett is a great place to live. Through a lot of hard work over the past few
years, we are now in the position of great opportunity. We have seen the
changing face of Everett through our focus on economic development, the
neighborhoods and investing in our quality of life.
In closing, I thank you, the Everett City Council, for your leadership through this
budget process. I also recognize our City employees for their hard work and
commitment. We are clearly in the midst of great change. From riverfront to
waterfront and Silver Lake to Smith Island, Everett is coming into its own.
Respectfully submitted,
tephanso
Mayor
3
