elpAwmw <br /> ,,,:' <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 4852 <br /> A Resolution in Support of Proposition No. 1 on the Election Ballot of <br /> February 29, 2000, Levying Taxes for Emergency Medical Care and <br /> Services Including Paramedic Services for City of Everett's Medic One Program. <br /> WHEREAS, Everett's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) through the City's Medic One <br /> Program has been providing outstanding paramedic service to the people of Everett since 1982; <br /> and has diligently covered every corner of the City since that time, seven days a week and 24 <br /> hours a day, with the demand for service steadily increasing each year; and <br /> WHEREAS,the City Council has found that there exists a critical need to maintain and improve <br /> emergency medical care and services in the City, including related personnel costs,training for <br /> such personnel, and related equipment, supplies, vehicles and structures needed for said services; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, the true cost of providing this service has risen faster than property taxes have <br /> increased and there exists a need to add an additional paramedic unit; and <br /> WHEREAS, the 1999 legislature in Chapter 224, Laws of Washington, 1999, has authorized the <br /> City to submit a proposition to the voters for authorization of a property tax levy, permanently <br /> supporting EMS and Initiative 695 requires a vote of the public on such proposition; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City's Medic One Program would be maintained and improved permanently <br /> under a proposed ballot issue being submitted to voters; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br /> OF EVERETT heartily supports the proposed ballot issue being submitted to Everett voters on <br /> February 29, 2000, in the amount of a maximum of fifty cents ($.50) per on thousand dollars <br /> ($1,000) of assessed property valuation for emergency medical care and services including <br /> paramedic services for the City's Medic One Program; and <br /> FURTHER, that the Council as a whole and Councilmembers individually authorize the EMS <br /> Levy Committee to use names of Councilmembers in supporting and promoting passage of this <br /> levy; and <br /> 1 <br />
