RESOLUTION NO. 47 93
A Resolution expressing the City of Everett's desire to see the
USS Henry M. Jackson housed in Everett upon any decommissioning process
that occurs with this Ohio-class Trident Submarine.
WHEREAS, the USS Henry M. Jackson, an Ohio-class U.S. Navy Trident Submarine,
is currently housed at Naval submarine base facilities at Bangor, Wash., and is in active
status; and
WHEREAS, the USS Henry M. Jackson is named in honor of the late and great United
States Senator Henry M. "Scoop" Jackson; and
WHEREAS, Henry M. Jackson, a native of Everett, was, is, and forever will be a
favorite son of Everett; and
WHEREAS, the City's everlasting desire is to cherish the memory of Henry M.
Jackson, and to honor his legacy through actions that both preserve and shine a
spotlight on his numerous accomplishments as a United States Senator and one-time
Presidential candidate; and
WHEREAS, one of Senator Jackson's many notable accomplishments was his support
of a Trident Submarine program and his advocacy of creating a high-profile role for
underseas operations through the establishment of an office that included a Deputy
Chief of Naval Operations for Undersea Warfare; and
WHEREAS, the Henry M. Jackson, while continuing to serve as an active reminder of
Senator Jackson's legacy as a defender of America's military might, may be
decommissioned over the next couple of decades; and
WHEREAS, it is always in the City of Everett's interests to house namesakes,
memorabilia, and official reminders of the great Senator Henry M. Jackson; and
NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Everett does hereby resolve:
1. That, as a matter of written record, Everett wishes to state its intentions early and
often for hosting the USS Henry M. Jackson upon any decommissioning process.
