This property has been a
community gathering space for many years and included a play structure, trellis and a gazebo.
The property was added to Everett's park lands as part of an amendment to the Comprehensive Plan,
(Ordinance 2928-06) in 2006. Park staff inspected the new park area and found the existing play structure to
be unsafe and removed the equipment in the fall of 2006. Park staff then began a dialogue with the Northwest
Neighborhood Organization to develop a proposal for a replacement play structure that meets City of Everett
park standards.
Playground installation and construction can begin in the summer of 2007. Based on the scale of the
Northwest Neighborhood Park, staff recommends that a Request For Proposal process be pursued which
identifies a maximum amount of$125,000 (including sales tax) for the project(design, acquisition and
installation). Concurrently, park perimeter improvements must be made to the new park playground
including play area curbing, ADA accessibility and site preparation for the playground installation.
Staff recommends Council approve issuance of a request for proposals for equipment, design and installation
in an amount not to exceed$125,000. Additionally, staff will develop a solicitation under the small works
roster program for the remaining improvements. Once bids have been received, staff will seek support for
complete project funding from Capital Improvement Program 3.
RECOMMENDATION (Exact action requested of Council): Authorize Issuance of Request for proposals
for playground equipment, design and installation in an amount not to exceed$125,000.
4
C:\Documents and Settings\SuClark\Desktop\1-31 Cover Sheets\Northwest Neighborhood Park council cover-playground equipment 1-23-07.doc
