Permlt Counter
This letter outlines several of the standards and guidelines that are being used in the design of the
High Bay Factory Office Build -Out project.
In general, the 1990 High -Bay Factory Expansion served as the baseline for design criteria and
building code interpretation. The 1990 High -Bay Factory Expansion was designed under the 1988
and 1991 editions of the UBC. We attempted to remain as consistent as possible with the 1990
High -Bay Factory Expansion project in our interpretations of the UBC, and in the application of
specific variances that were granted by the City of Lverett for that project. These interpretations
are described below. The current High Bay Factory Office Build -Out project is designed under the
1994 edition of the UDC. Issues specifically related to the interpretation of the current code are
also described below.
I. In general, exit potential to the tunnels is increased from all levels, since additional stair
towers will be built to provide two means of egress for the new office areas. In no instance
does the occupancy of a new office level create a load on the tunnel exitway larger than i
the factory floor. The pedestrian tunnel exit width is sufficient to meet the combined
tributary areas of the factory Floor and tower levels. 10 o 0o i c if
2. The occupant load for the factory floor is I occupant per 1000 s.f. This is consistent with
the occupant load factor used in the 1990 High -Bay Factory Expansion.
3. No new spaces are assembly areas. 1)
ie,
4. The tower office spaces are subordinate uses to manufacturing, and are considered to be
mezzanine levels. This is consistent with the 1990 High -Bay Factory Expansion. --
Of ccll CL-FV, LAIRY, Sri ->  Lr V S/>+ M wil h f'RFsfARIrp
ly
