Her obJective
was to determine how well the Vortechsm System retained pollutants fiom parking lot runoff,
including total suspended solids (TSS), nutrients, metals, and petroleum hydrocarbons.
A Vortechs° Model 5000 was installed in 1998 to treat runoff from the 82-space parkir.g lot of
Timothy Edwards Middle School. The entire watershed was approximately 2-scres (G.81 ha), and
was 80% impervious.
Testin Period Jul 2000 to A ril 2001
# of Storms Sam led weekly composite samples taken
Mean Influent 324 mg/L
Concentretlon
Mean Effluent 73 mg/L
Concentretion
Removal Efficienc 77%
Additionally, the Vortechsm System was particularly effective in removing zinc (85%), lead (46%),
copper (56%), phosphorus (67%) and nitrate (54%).
The study concluded that the Vortechsm Stormwater Treatment System significan[ly reduced
efFluent concentretlons of many pollutants in stormwater runoff.
Rev 4-29-U4 (WSG?
