This material was well compacted and would have an
estimated bearing capacity of approximately 4,000 pounds per square foot.
(Jear Lhe center of these two apartment units a gray-brown hard gravely clay
underlying soft topsoil.
Near the east end med;um-hard sandy clay was found to be two to three feet
below the surface. The bearing value of this clay material appears to be
approximately 2,500 pounds per square foot. The Contractor was instructed
to remove all the soft bro•m topsoil and to backfill with pit run to the
` elevations of the bottom of the footing. This pit run aas to be compacted
by operating heavy equipment ove in no more than 12" layers.
If the above instructions are followed, we believe there will be no problem
in obtaining efficient bearing for the building foundation.
Very truly yours,
LE[ JOHPSON' dD ASSOCIATS, INC.
/
lC-
I_.
