McCann of MMC �ngincering on December 8, 2011. 1'he purpose <br />was to determine the level of structural damage, if any, to three wood joists due <br />to plumbing penetrations, and recommend any remedial mcasums needed. Mr. <br />McCann is.a licensed SU•uctural Gngineer in Uie State of Washington and <br />initially only provided thc latcral dcsign for this residence. <br />The structure currently under consU•uction is a two story wood frame. Thc <br />holes found wcre drilled in three joists over the garage toward the back wall of <br />the garage. Pictures wcre taken of the condition, but not included in tliis <br />reporL The span of the_joists was 9'-7" clear fi•om the outside wall to the <br />interior glulam bcam, with the centerline of the drilled holes 2'-9" from the <br />edge of the Slulam beam. The holes drilled �vere about 4" in diameter, �vith the <br />bottom of Qic hole varying from 1" to 1?5" fi•om thc bottont of Uie joists. The <br />2X l0 joists �vere a mix of # 1 and #2 HF inaterial. <br />Prom the attached calculations, the moment capacity of the three joists has been <br />reduced significantly as h�s been the shear capacity. Although the remainins <br />shear capacity is still OK, the moment is not. Consequently, one LSTA36 _ <br />necds to bc nailed to the underside of each joist with (24) lOd nails, with <br />the straps centercd on thc holes. <br />
