NARRATIVE STATEMENT
US Sprint is requesting a Special Use Permit be approved by the
City of Everett to allow for the construction and operation of a
fiber optic telecommunications facility in the community. The
property on which the proposed facility would be placed is
currently a vacant lot owned by the Simpson Paper Company.
The technology of fiber optics, provides for the transmittal of
long distance telephone conversations across a hair -thin piece of
glass that is encased in a protective cable and buried in the
ground between every major city in the country. Our presence in
the Everett market will provide the long distance telephone
consumer with the choice of using US Sprint's state of the art
long distance services.
US Sprint's standard modular facility is 384 square feet
(12' x 321) and nine (9) feet in height. It has been designed as
a very low impact structure which can easily be screened by
landscaping as necessary. The facility will have air
conditioning units mounted on the outside of the building which
would account for the only discernible source of noise at the
site. The facility is unmanned, yet a technician will visit the
site infrequently.
This US Sprint structure is highly compatible with the existing
uses in the surrounding B-2/manufacturing zones. This facility
will contribute as a positive addition to the community.
Everett, Washington and the surrounding areas will become a
critical link in our fiber optic network as part of US Sprint's
Seattle to Spokane route. The site US Sprint has chosen will
optimize our coverage of the telephone market and minimize US
Sprint's city street construction.
L. 4,2,-nr iE
